Procession and Prayer Service for Immigration Reform in Eugene this Sunday
Eugene, Ore--On Sunday, March 7th, join Reverend Mark Bachmeir and the Hispanic Community of St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene, Rev. Roy Antunez, SJ and the Hispanic Community of St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield, and CAUSA Oregon for a Message of Faith, Hope, and Family Unity for Comprehensive Immigration Reform
WHAT: We Are One Family Under God in Oregon Procession and Prayer Service
WHEN: Sunday, March 7, 2010 at 2:15 p.m.
WHERE: Procession will begin at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene at 1062 Charnelton Street and will end at the office of US Congressman Peter De Fazio (405 East 8th Ave. #2030, Eugene) with a Prayer Service
WHO: The Lane County Committee for a Just Immigration Reform, Reverend Mark Bachmeir and the Hispanic Community of St. Mary Catholic Church, Rev. Roy Antunez, SJ and the Hispanic Community of St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield, and CAUSA
The goal of Sunday's event is to call on Congressman DeFazio to support Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity (CIR-ASAP) Act of 2009 (HR4321) and the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2009 (HR1751).
The Lane County Committee for a Just Immigration Reform was formed last month by members of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Eugene and the St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield to promote passage of a just and humane immigration reform. One that
. Creates millions of new taxpayers by requiring undocumented immigrants to register, go through background checks, pay taxes, and study English on their way to becoming full U.S. citizens
. Protects workers and helps with economic recovery
. Keeps families together
. Protects the due process rights of all
